EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the Grammar School in Guildford, Surrey, in 1911. Created by artist James Ogilvy, this artwork showcases the historical significance of the Royal Grammar School, an esteemed English independent day school for boys. Founded upon the passing of Robert Beckingham in 1509, it officially formed a governing body in 1512 to establish itself as an educational institution. This move was made possible through a royal charter granted by King Edward VI in 1552, solidifying its status and prestige within Guildford's educational landscape. Taken from "A Pilgrimage In Surrey". Volume 1 by James S. Ogilvy and published by George Routledge & Sons Limited in London during 1914, this image offers a glimpse into the past and serves as a valuable piece of history for both current students and alumni alike.
