The GLC-LFB was created on 1 April 1965. A series of photos was commissioned of each type of fire engine, either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade. The Dennis fire engine seen here came into London from the Surrey Fire Brigade, Surreys fire engines did not carry the 50 foot wheeled escape ladder, but a 45 foot extension ladder (as shown). These fire engines were converted to carry wheeled escapes until the escape ladders were decommissioned in the mid-1980s. 13.5 metre (45 foot) extension ladders were reintroduced across the Brigade
