Dennis breakdown lorry, demonstrating wrong method
Firefighters operating a Dennis breakdown lorry (commissioned at HQ on 3 April 1936), demonstrating the wrong method of lifting and towing the front axle. The front axle is not slung, which means that about 8 inches are lost on the lift, due to the axle being suspended by the top leaves of the springs. This is unsafe as well as unsatisfactory, causing loss of time and possible damage. The proper procedure is to pass the chain under and over either end of the axle, then place a teak board across and under the front springs so that no damage can be done to the radiator and other parts
