This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Evelyn Arms pub in Deptford, London, during the 1910s. The pub, located at SE8 3QQ, was a popular local watering hole with a rich history. The main side of the image shows the pub's right face, with its ornate brickwork and large, arched windows. The building, which was not affiliated with the Charrington and Company Limited, exudes a sense of charm and character, inviting passersby to step inside for a pint. Unfortunately, this historic pub did not survive the test of time. As detailed on the back of the print (available upon request), the Evelyn Arms was demolished in 1919. The reason for its demise is unknown, but it is a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of urban areas and the loss of historical buildings that once held significant community value. The Evelyn Arms was not just a pub, but a gathering place for locals, a place to share stories, and a symbol of the history and culture of Deptford.
