Its believed a crowd estimated up to 300, 000 gained entrance resulting in the terraces overflowing and spectators surging onto the pitch. Mounted policemen, including one on a white horse, had to clear the crowds from the pitch to allow the match to take place. The game began 45 minutes late as crowds stood on the touchline. This first FA Cup final at Wembley is often referred to as the " White Horse Final"
