A Shand Mason horse-drawn manual pump, with crew from Red Cross Street fire station in traditional costume, taking part in the 1932 Lord Mayor's Show, City of London. The engine dates back to 1890, the pump being operated from both sides by extending bars; this type of appliance was last used in 1899

The burning stacks of baled rubber were dangerously close to the British Anti-Fouling Company building which contained many gallons of solvent naphtha, white spirit, paints, varnishes and other materials

Firefighters in action with hosepipes at night, at a fire in Shad Thames, 19 February 1958, at the premises of Corry & Co, showing the Gainsford Street/Maguire Street corner of the building. At this stage the first floor was completely involved, with the fire spreading rapidly to the upper floors and roof. After a partial internal collapse, crews were withdrawn from inside and the main attack was concentrated with escapes and extension ladders pitched to the various floors on three sides of the building
