Capturing the Spirit of Seagull Racing in Lerryn, Cornwall - January 1992

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from January 1992, we are transported to the picturesque village of Lerryn in St Veep, Cornwall. The annual Seagull race is about to kick off, and excitement fills the air as over 50 vessels gather at the starting line. What makes this race truly unique is that each boat must be powered by a Seagull outboard motor. As the flag drops, dinghies bob up and down on the water's surface while oars splash rhythmically against its gentle waves. Colorful flags flutter proudly in the breeze as participants clad in vibrant fancy dress costumes eagerly push their inflatable crafts forward. The challenging 4.5 mile course stretches from Lerryn to St Winnow, testing both skill and endurance. Amongst all the competitors who gave their best shot at victory that day, it was Mixtow Marauders who claimed the coveted team trophy for their exceptional performance. But it wasn't just about speed; creativity also took center stage during this thrilling event. Eileen Barron and Phillipa Douglass stood out with their imaginative fancy dress outfits, earning them well-deserved recognition. Breaking barriers and showcasing incredible talent, Hannah Kelson emerged triumphant as she became the first woman to cross the finish line – an inspiring achievement that left spectators cheering her name.
