LCC-LFB Brigade marching band at the Annual Review
The Fire Brigade Band performing at the 1929 Annual Review in Victoria Park, East London. Formed after the First World War, the Brigade had an outstanding band which consisted entirely of serving London firemen, all of whom were talented musicians. Many had played in a band during their naval or military service. Sadly the Bands day came to an end in the early 1970s when funding from the Greater London Council was withdrawn

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the LCC-LFB Brigade marching band in action during their Annual Review in Victoria Park, East London, in 1929. The London Fire Brigade Band, formed after the First World War, was an outstanding musical ensemble consisting solely of serving London firemen. Many of these talented musicians had honed their skills in bands during their naval or military service. The band's day came to an end in the early 1970s when funding from the Greater London Council was withdrawn. In this image, the band, led by their bandmaster, is seen parading through Victoria Park, their brass instruments gleaming in the sunlight. The scene transports us back to the 1920s, a time when the fire brigade band was an integral part of London's civic life. The firemen, dressed in their uniforms, are focused and determined as they perform for the crowds that have gathered to watch the parade and review. This photograph is a poignant reminder of the rich musical heritage of the London Fire Brigade and the important role that music played in the lives of these dedicated firemen.
