Crystal Palace. 19th-century artwork of people visiting a large bazaar (or shopping arcade) in central London built in the style of the famous Crystal Palace exhibition hall. The original Crystal Palace was built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It was constructed from plate glass and cast iron. The original Hyde Park building had been reconstructed and enlarged at Sydenham in south London in 1854. This bazaar, called The London Crystal Palace, was designed by Owen Jones and opened in 1858 at Regents Circus, in Oxford Street. This bazaars hall had a vault 11 metres high, with wrought-iron ribs and coloured glass with diamond and star shapes
